Carboxyl Methyl Cellulose (CMC) is a cellulose derivative with carboxyl methyl groups bound to some of the hydroxyl groups of the glucopyranose monomers that make up the cellulose backbone. It is often used as its sodium salt, sodium carboxyl methyl cellulose.

 

 

Application: 

 

Pharmaceuticals

CMC can be used as thickener, stabilizer and water-holding agent for medicine syrup. It can also be used as water holding and dispersing agent for soft paste medicine. As disintegrating agent of the tablet, it can control the release of medicine. CMC also can be used as emulsifying oil agent in injection process.

 

Food

CMC is widely used in food industry. It plays the roles of taste improvement, thickening and stabilization when used in various kinds of dairy drinks and seasonings. CMC is also used in ice cream, bread, cake, biscuit, instant noodle and fast paste foods as an additive of molding, taste improvement. anti-fragmentation, water retaining and tenacity strengthening.

 

Cosmetics
